Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

I've registered my child, now what?

  • Coaches will call players/parents approximately two weeks ahead of the season start date (possibly earlier)
  • Practice once a week starting one week before start date (day/time determined by coaches)
  • Typically practices are held on a weekday evening (Under-6 practice approximately 30 minutes, Under-8 practice approximately 45 – 60 minutes, Under-11 and Under-14 practice approximately 1 hour)
  • Games on Saturdays and Sundays at the Lee Athletic Field* between 9A and 5P*
  • Children are required to wear shinguards for all practices and games
  • Shinguards are available at most department and sporting goods stores (available at Ben's in Lee) - inexpensive shinguards are fine and should cost less than $10
  • Cleats are not required (For younger children, sneakers are more than adequate)
  • If cleats are worn, they must be soccer cleats – baseball, football, etc are dangerous due to the layout and makeup of the cleats
  • We will provide a uniform shirt and socks (socks go over shinguards)
  • In case of cancellations due to inclement weather, coaches will call the players
  • We ask that parents help police the grounds – let's keep it litter-free
  • We ask that everyone help us keep children from hanging and climbing on the goals. This is particularly dangerous – children can be seriously injured by falling goals; falling from goals; or getting tangled up in a net.

What is the competitive level and environment like for the "house league" program and how does it compare to other soccer opportunities?

The environment is meant to be as inclusive and friendly as possible. Player's skill levels and athletic ability in all age groupings range from beginning to accomplished. We don't keep standings in any of the divisions and in the youngest divisions we discourage "score keeping." This is an opportunity to be with friends, make new friends and enjoy the pleasures of physical acitivity and friendly competition with soccer as a medium. Games are played with spirit and gusto, and children do have the opportunity to gain soccer skills and enjoy many of the positive experiences offered by team sports, however this is not meant to be a highly competitive environment.

Children (and parents) looking for a more competitive environment may want to explore opportunities to play on a travel team in the Berkshire County Youth Soccer League. Check the BCYSL website (click on the "league info" link and scroll down) to find contact information for the various towns/clubs/teams.)

Do I have to live in Lee to participate?

No, many of our participants come from nearby towns, however you should keep in mind that practices and games take place in Lee. Also, in the event that two children were vying for a remaining roster slot in one of our divisions, preference would be given to the child residing in Lee, so please be sure to submit your registration in a timely manor.

May I request a particular coach or practice day/time?

You may indicate any preferences that you have in the space provided on the registration form, however we can not guarnatee that any requests will be met. The best way to influence the day/time of your child's practices, or the coaching enivironment is to become a volunteer!

I have heard that there are teams based in the Town of Otis?

There are frequently enough Otis-based children and volunteers in an age group to make an Otis team. While this may be ideal, it is not always possible, and has frequently been problematic. If, at the registration deadline, there is less than a quorum for an Otis team, a final decision will be made to not field one. For logistical reasons, late registrations will not be considered toward fielding Otis-based teams, and the registered Otis players will be added to the general player pool for assignment to Lee-based teams.
